Week Seven Features Intriguing Rematches

In the second half of the season the Playoff races generally heat up and we get a better idea of who is better than who. Teams start playing each other for the second time with many factors which may change the outcome of the first meeting. A transfer here, a player quitting there, luck favoring the opposite side, all things which may turn a 4-2 win into a 4-2 loss in round two.

BREAK AND RUN @ SIMPLY POOL SOULS - Monday, 7:00

This may be the most anticipated rematch of the week. In week two, Simply Pool Souls stunned Break and Run in game seven to in 4-3. The victory was set up early on when Monte made multiple big shots to grab an early win. Break and Run has played significantly better following the 0-2 start but still can't be considered to be contenders at this point. Break and Run will need to take care of business Monday night, not for revenge, but to break the tie with SPS in the standings. Both teams are 3-3 and while BNR holds a 2-game advantage in the overall records, that can quickly change. Simply Pool Souls looked flat against Pool Fiction last week but was able to chain together a couple of wins after the match was decided at 4-0. After a 2-0 start SPS has been falling fast. And I think the freefall will continue. BNR wins 4-2

POOL DRAGONZ @ DEADSTROKES - Tuesday, 7:00

Deadstrokes is trying to recover from an abysmal start to the season. So far, DS has battled to within two matches of earning a Playoff spot. If Extreme Pool Competitors begins its usual collapse, DS has a very legitimate shot at sneaking into the top three. Meanwhile, the struggle continues for Pool Dragonz. Each week PDZ comes in with the hopes that this might be the night, only to have thoughts of an upset quickly washed away by the opposition. Deadstrokes beat an EPC team with only five players last week, and I think DS gets one step closer this week. DS wins 4-2

SEXY POOLERZ @ EXTREME POOL COMPETITORS - Wednesday, 6:00

Much like Pool Dragonz, Sexy Poolerz has to wonder if that first win will ever come. Last week SP got to game seven against Freedom before bailing the favorites out with a late foul. Mathematically, SP isn't eliminated from contention. Realistically, there's really nothing to play for except to play spoiler. Extreme Pool Competitors is threatening to fall apart. Only five players appeared last week in a loss to Deadstrokes, jt.jester seems to be gone for the foreseeable future, EPC is planning to quit the World Pool Championship, it has been a very quick fall immediately after squashing Pool Fiction 5-1. If Cam and Jack can keep things glued together, EPC has a shot. But I think the usual chain of events is underway. SP wins 4-3

POOL FICTION @ FREEDOM - Wednesday, 7:00

Arguably the biggest problem for Freedom has been Wednesday nights. Generally speaking, the Captain can't be there on those nights. But we are in March and many colleges are in Spring Break mode. With Deadstrokes surging in the second half, both teams would like at least one more win to feel a little more comfortable. Both Freedom and Pool Fiction are tied at 4-2, with PFN winning the first meeting 4-2. It's difficult to get a read on this PFN team. Some nights the team looks brilliant, other nights it takes a game 6 Cam DQ just to get a draw. Freedom is much the same way: some nights rock solid, other nights the team struggles to get the job done. The one common factor between the two teams is they do get it done. It's no secret these two teams will be at each other's throats, especially with my recent accusations of cheating by Eba in last week's Pro Players Association match. As far as I'm concerned it's water under the bridge, but realistically speaking it will only add more fuel to the fire. Freedom did kind of have PFN's number before the previous couple of meetings. I think they'll get one back here and level the season series. FR wins 4-2

MISCUES @ STRAIGHTSHOTS - Thursday, 6:00

Well it's obvious that still nobody has come up with an answer for the known (Ant at 7-0) and the unknown (nerdherd at 6-0). Until somebody does, Miscues is going to continue to win more than Charlie Sheen. Secrets are only good for so long, though. Eventually, the mystique wears off. If it hasn't yet, it may actually be bad news for MC. But Miscues is still undefeated, and this week MC faces its toughest opposition in the Eastern Division. Straightshots lost a 4-2 decision to MC the first time around. When you look at the results and the order of play for SS in that first meeting, it's no surprise SS blew a 2-0 lead. This has always been the case for Shelle's SS teams; the team will go as far as its talent takes it. Ben is a better Captain with better talent and all the confidence in the world. MC wins 5-1

Three teams tied for the second and third spots in the East, three teams tied at the top of the West with Deadstrokes threatening to jump in. The final four weeks of the World Series of Pool should be very exciting. Here we go!
